Triathletes for 2012

Did you know that California Pools sponsors a bicycling team? California Pools Racing is a club of 150 members with 30 elite racers and an impressive score of state and national championships. Next for 2012, California Pools Racing will also include a triathlon team component.

"In December, 2011, we're gearing up for a big triathlon that's local to us in the city of Hemet," says Ernie Sanchez, team manager. The Temple Triathlon is not new to the California Pools racers; in 2010 more than 80 percent of CA Pools participants won in their categories. "This time we're going out to the race as an official triathlon component," says Sanchez. "The Temple Triathlon will be our team debut."

The team took top honors with Ernie Sanchez winning Stage 1 in the 40+, followed by Erich Schenk. That afternoon, Erich was second, followed by Raul Cortez in third. On Saturday, the team got lost on their way to the start line and chased with negative results, and on Sunday, the team took top honors again with Schenk taking first followed by Sanchez in second and Cortez in third place. In the 55+, Tony took top honors winning the Sunday stage. He raced in the top three several times, ultimately ending up third in GC.
